Joseph Bukari Nikpe, the minister-designate for transport, has committed to deploying electronic buses procured by the previous Akufo-Addo administration to enhance Ghana’s public transportation system.
Speaking during his vetting by the Appointments Committee of Parliament on January 30, Mr. Nikpe underscored the importance of evaluating the suitability of the electric buses for Ghana’s transport conditions before fully integrating them into the system.
“We will put them into use, assess them, and see whether they are suitable for our conditions. If they fit our conditions, why not continue to enrol them in our transport sector?” he stated.
The introduction of electronic buses is part of a broader initiative aimed at reducing transport fares and modernising the country’s public transport system.
The initiative aligns with global efforts to adopt greener and more efficient public transportation alternatives, thereby contributing to environmental sustainability.
