The legal representative for Daniel Owusu Koranteng, a former associate of slain investigative journalist Ahmed Suale, has vehemently denied claims that his client was evading arrest.
Koranteng, who has been charged with murder in connection with Suale’s 2019 assassination, was reportedly near the journalist’s Madina residence at the time of the shooting. Authorities allege he later ignored police invitations and left for the UK, leading to suspicions that he was on the run. However, after years of surveillance, he was arrested upon his return to Ghana on March 15, 2025.
Speaking on Eyewitness News on Citi FM, Koranteng’s lawyer, Kofi Essel, rejected these allegations, insisting his client never fled the country and had been actively conducting undercover investigations.

“He has been in Ghana all these years, publishing investigative reports, exposing criminal activities, and even aiding in arrests,” Essel asserted. “If the authorities claim they couldn’t reach him, I don’t understand where that assertion is coming from.”
The high-profile case has reignited public interest in Ahmed Suale’s murder, a crime that remains a dark stain on Ghana’s press freedom. As the legal proceedings unfold, all eyes will be on how the prosecution presents its evidence and whether Koranteng can successfully challenge the charges against him.
