The Africa Prosperity Network (APN) has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of eight distinguished Ghanaians, including two cabinet ministers, in a military helicopter crash that occurred on Wednesday, August 6, in the Ashanti Region.
In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter) by Gabby Otchere Darko, the APN joined the people of Ghana in mourning, highlighting the national and continental impact of the tragedy.

The eight deceased individuals were on board a Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 military helicopter bound for a government assignment in Obuasi when it lost radar contact shortly after takeoff. The aircraft was later discovered crashed in a densely forested area in the Adansi Akrofuom District, with no survivors.
Among the Victims:
- Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence
- Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment and MP for Tamale Central
- Dr Samuel Sarpong, National Vice Chairman of the NDC
- Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator
- Samuel Aboagye, civilian staff
- Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, pilot
- Flying Officer Twum Ampadu, co-pilot
- Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, flight technician
Following the crash, President John Dramani Mahama has suspended all official engagements for the remainder of the week. The Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, confirmed the development in a statement released Wednesday night.
“There will be three days of national mourning starting tomorrow, Thursday, 7 August 2025. The government, through the Chief of Staff, has meanwhile directed that all flags must fly at half-mast until further notice,” Ofosu announced.
At an emergency press conference, Chief of Staff Julius Debrah officially confirmed the identities of the deceased and assured the public of the government’s full support to the bereaved families.
“The President and the government extend our condolences and sympathies to the families of our comrades and the servicemen who died in service to the country,” he said.
A joint operation by the Ghana Armed Forces and National Security led the recovery efforts. All eight bodies were retrieved from the crash site and airlifted to Burma Camp in Accra before being moved to the 37 Military Hospital for preservation and autopsy.
This national tragedy has triggered a wave of condolences from institutions, diplomats, civil society groups, and international partners, all recognising the irreplaceable contributions of the departed to Ghana’s governance and national development.
The Africa Prosperity Network—a pan-African organisation dedicated to advancing economic unity on the continent—concluded its statement by affirming that the legacy of the fallen leaders would live on.
“Their commitment to Ghana and the greater African vision of unity and progress will continue to inspire generations.”
