Ablekuma Central MCE Orders Removal of Roadside Vehicles in 5 Days

The Ablekuma Central Municipal Assembly has issued a five-day ultimatum to individuals who abandon or repair vehicles along public roads, warning of stiff penalties for non-compliance.

This directive is part of a sweeping decongestion effort led by Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Frank Nkansah, aimed at restoring order and improving public safety across the municipality.

Speaking during an inspection tour on Friday, May 30, 2025, Mr Nkansah described the current situation as a public nuisance, stressing that main roads in the municipality have been turned into unauthorised mechanical hubs, obstructing traffic flow and endangering pedestrians.

“We are about to begin a decongestion exercise targeting the unauthorised use of public roads and spaces. Many main streets in Ablekuma Central have become makeshift car repair sites, causing congestion and inconvenience for residents and commuters,” the MCE said.

He announced that the Assembly will deploy municipal guards on Thursday, June 5, to begin strict enforcement of its bylaws. All abandoned vehicles and roadside mechanical operations will be cleared, and offenders will face sanctions including towing fees and possible prosecution under local regulations.

Mr. Nkansah emphasised that the Assembly is committed to maintaining discipline, cleanliness, and safety and called on residents to support the initiative:

“To restore order, the Assembly will not hesitate to act. This is a collective effort, and we are calling on all stakeholders to support us in creating a more orderly and healthier municipality.”

As part of the same inspection tour, Mr Nkansah also visited an unauthorised dumping site near the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) at Ayigbe Town, close to the Agbogbloshie market.

Expressing deep concern over the level of indiscriminate waste disposal, he warned that such activities pose serious public health and environmental risks.

“This is unacceptable. There is an urgent need for a coordinated national response to waste management. Local assemblies can’t do it alone.”

He hinted at the imminent introduction of stricter enforcement measures to curb illegal dumping and improve sanitation across communities in Ablekuma Central.

The MCE also called for greater collaboration between government agencies, the private sector, and the public in addressing the ongoing waste management crisis.
