A-Plus Threatens to Reveal Alleged Perpetrator in Ahmed Suale Murder Case

The Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare-Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, has issued a stern warning to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, threatening to publicly disclose the identity of the alleged mastermind behind the 2019 murder of investigative journalist Ahmed Suale.

Speaking in a public statement, A Plus expressed frustration over the prolonged delay in resolving the case and accused the CID of a lack of transparency.

He revealed that during a visit to the CID headquarters last year, he identified a former high-profile government minister as the individual suspected of contracting assailants for the crime. This identification, he said, was based on credible information provided by a trusted source and disclosed in the presence of the CID Director.

“It appears the matter has been sidelined,” A Plus stated, emphasising the need for immediate action. He has given the CID a 48-hour ultimatum to provide an update on the investigation or justify the delay. Failing this, the MP plans to take matters into his own hands by exposing key details of the case, including the alleged perpetrator’s identity, through his social media platforms.

“If the police fail to act, I will not hesitate to reveal the identity of the individual behind this heinous crime,” he declared, adding that his actions are intended to ensure justice for Ahmed Suale and to hold institutions accountable.

Ahmed Suale, a member of the investigative journalism team Tiger Eye PI and collaborator of Anas Aremeyaw Anas, was shot dead in Accra in January 2019, a few months after releasing an exposé on corruption in Ghanaian football. Despite national and international outrage, progress on the case has been minimal.

A Plus also hinted at leveraging his position as a member of Parliament to summon the Ghana Police Service to brief Parliament on the status of the investigation.

He warned that the credibility of law enforcement institutions is at stake if justice continues to be delayed.
