Fourteen suspects are in police custody following a targeted anti-drug operation led by the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) in the Birim Central and Asene Manso Akroso districts of Ghana’s Eastern Region.
The arrests took place in Akim Oda and Akroso after several weeks of intelligence-led surveillance aimed at disrupting illegal drug supply chains.
During the swoop, officers seized large quantities of cannabis and a locally abused substance known as “red”. The scale of the discovery points to a well-organised trafficking network operating within the area.
Additionally, three chemical stores were shut down for selling unregistered and controlled drugs without appropriate licences—violating pharmaceutical regulations.

This decisive move forms part of NACOC’s broader strategy to clamp down on the trade and use of illicit substances across the country. Officials say the Commission will intensify such operations and urged the public to assist by reporting suspicious activities.
According to NACOC, this is one of many upcoming interventions intended to dismantle drug syndicates and safeguard public health and safety.
