10 Foreigners Arrested for Suspected Cybercrime Activities in Weija

Ten foreign nationals have been arrested by the Cybercrime Unit of the Ghana Police Service in a major operation targeting cybercrime-related activities in Weija, a suburb of the Greater Accra Region.

The suspects, identified as Chinese and Malaysian nationals, were picked up during a joint intelligence-led operation conducted on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, in collaboration with officials from the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).

According to a statement issued by the police, the raid forms part of a broader crackdown on cybercriminal networks operating within Ghana’s borders.

Exhibits retrieved during the operation include over 800 assorted mobile phones, computers, and several charging devices, all believed to be connected to illicit cyber activities. The statement noted that these items are currently being held for forensic analysis to support ongoing investigations.

“The arrested individuals are in custody and assisting police with further investigations. All exhibits have been retained for forensic examination,” the statement said.

The operation underscores growing concerns over the increasing sophistication and international dimension of cybercrime in Ghana, particularly in urban centres like Accra.

Authorities have promised to intensify surveillance and cooperation with international partners to dismantle such networks and bring perpetrators to justice.

The Ghana Police Service also used the opportunity to urge the public to report suspicious activities in their communities and continue to support efforts to maintain law and order in the digital space.
