WAEC Launches 2025 WASSCE Private Candidates Registration

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has commenced the registration process for the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for Private Candidates, First Series.

This registration window, which began recently, is set to close on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, offering candidates a limited timeframe to complete their applications.

The announcement of the registration process was made by WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, during an appearance on the JoyNews AM Show on December 31, 2024. Mr. Kapi introduced the First Series program, also known as WASSCE PC1, as an innovative pathway for students and other individuals to quickly improve their academic grades.

Previously, candidates who wished to retake their examinations had to wait for the next cycle of the private candidates’ examination. The new program eliminates this lengthy delay by offering an earlier opportunity to resit specific subjects, empowering candidates to address academic deficiencies in a more timely manner.

WAEC has provided clear guidelines for registration, urging prospective candidates to visit its official website for comprehensive instructions. Candidates are required to complete their registrations at accredited internet cafés approved by WAEC to ensure compliance with the council’s standards.

The examination will cover a wide array of subjects, allowing candidates to select the areas they wish to improve upon. The process aims to provide maximum flexibility while upholding the integrity and security of the examination system.

The WASSCE First Series for Private Candidates will take place from January 24 to February 15, 2025. During this period, candidates will write their chosen subjects under standardised conditions that meet WAEC’s rigorous quality assurance protocols. This approach ensures that the results are credible and globally recognised.

WAEC has assured candidates of its readiness to provide support throughout the registration and examination process. For any enquiries or clarifications, candidates can reach out to WAEC through its official communication channels, including email and designated helplines. This proactive support structure underscores WAEC’s commitment to facilitating a smooth and accessible process for all participants.
