The Ghana Publishing Company Limited (GPCL) is positioning itself to enter the specialised security printing market after investing €1.5 million in equipment for the establishment of a security press.

Managing Director of the company, Nana Kwesi Boaitey, announced the investment during the Government Accountability Series on Monday, November 2, 2026, saying the initiative is expected to expand GPCL’s capacity and open up new business opportunities.

He explained that the company’s investment in digital printing technology, in addition to its existing offset printing facilities, had laid the foundation for the next phase of its modernisation agenda.

Mr Boaitey said the acquisition of security printing equipment was intended to complete that process and enable the company to compete in the production of sensitive documents.

He disclosed that the equipment, valued at €1.5 million, was expected to arrive in Ghana during November, after which work would begin towards establishing the facility.

“After we have established a digital press in addition to the offsets, what was left was a security press. So this year, we have invested 1.5 million euros in equipment that is yet to arrive, maybe in the course of this month, to commence the establishment of our security press,” he said.

The Managing Director identified chequebooks and passports as some of the products GPCL hopes to compete to print once the security press becomes operational.

He said the investment was driven by the company's determination to identify commercially viable areas within the printing industry and build the capacity to serve those markets.

The move forms part of GPCL’s broader efforts to modernise its operations, diversify its services and strengthen its competitiveness in the printing sector.
