U.S. Visa Of Ken Ofori-Atta Was Revoked In June 2025- Deputy AG Reveals
Deputy Attorney-General Justice Srem Sai has clarified that the U.S. visa of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta was revoked in June 2025, dismissing earlier suggestions that the document had merely expired.
Speaking on Accra-based TV3, he said the information available to the Attorney-General’s office confirms the revocation.
According to him, “ICE will not come for you unless you have visa issues; that is what has happened.”

“In June 2025, his visa was revoked; it’s not an expiration of the visa. The information we have is that his visa was revoked. So, he has been living in America without a visa,” he explained.
Available immigration guidance indicates that U.S. authorities may revoke visas when a holder becomes ineligible, including violations of visa conditions, fraud, or other grounds of inadmissibility.
Mr Ofori-Atta is currently in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) over matters relating to his immigration status.
This development was confirmed in a public notice issued by his legal representatives, Minka-Premo, Osei-Bonsu, Bruce-Cathline and Partners, on January 7.
The notice stated that his U.S. attorneys are in contact with immigration authorities and expect a quick resolution.
It explained, “Mr Ofori-Atta has a pending petition for adjustment of status, which authorises a person to stay in the US legally past the period of validity of their visa. Under US law, a change of status by this method is common.”
The lawyers further assured the public that their client is cooperating fully with authorities, saying, “The public is therefore advised to note that Mr Ken Ofori-Atta, as a law-abiding person, is fully cooperating with ICE to have this issue resolved.”
Mr Ofori-Atta is also being sought by the Attorney-General and the Office of the Special Prosecutor in connection with cases linked to the SML revenue deal and the National Cathedral project, among others.
He is currently in the United States receiving medical treatment for a long-term health condition.
Although his legal team has indicated he will return to Ghana, recent developments have raised uncertainty about when that may happen.
