A tragic accident involving three vehicles has left two people feared dead and several others injured at Gomoa Otsew on the Winneba-Cape Coast highway in the Central Region.
The collision, which occurred on Friday, involved a Sprinter Benz bus (GW 5064-24), a Honda Pilot 4×4 (DE 3440-13), and a Samsung Kia truck (GW 8308-21) loaded with pineapples heading from Ekumfi Nanaben to Accra.
According to DO2 Anthony Kwesi Rhule, the Apam District Fire Service Commander, the crash happened when the Honda Pilot attempted to overtake the Kia truck but collided head-on with an oncoming Sprinter Benz bus.
Two passengers from the Honda Pilot and Sprinter Benz bus are feared to have lost their lives due to the severity of their injuries. Several others sustained multiple injuries and were transported to the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital for emergency treatment.
DO2 Rhule described the accident as avoidable, attributing it to the Honda Pilot driver’s impatience while overtaking. “This tragic incident could have been prevented if the driver had exercised more caution,” he said.
The collision left the vehicles severely mangled, causing traffic congestion along the busy highway. Emergency responders are working to tow the wreckage to restore the free flow of traffic.
