Sakumono: Uncle, Niece Shot Dead In Alleged GH¢500K Debt Dispute
Police are investigating the murder of two persons, identified as 47-year-old Irene Atubiga, and George Atubiga, 57, at NTHC Estate in Sakumono, following an alleged dispute over a GH¢500,000 debt.
The two were reportedly shot dead on Friday, October 30, 2026, after a confrontation at their residence involving a suspect identified as Samuel Christopher Osei Anto.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Accra Regional Police Command said preliminary investigations suggest that the incident stemmed from a financial dispute involving George Atubiga, who had allegedly borrowed GH¢500,000 from the suspect but failed to repay the money.
According to the police, the suspect, accompanied by a woman identified as Beatrice Mumuni, went to the victims’ residence on the morning of the incident to demand repayment.
A misunderstanding reportedly ensued, during which the suspect allegedly shot and killed George Atubiga and his niece, Irene Atubiga.
The victims were rushed to a hospital, where a medical officer pronounced them dead. Their bodies have since been deposited at the Police Hospital Mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
The Baatsona Divisional Police Command is investigating the incident, while the Accra Regional Police Command says efforts are underway to apprehend the suspect.
The police have appealed to anyone with relevant information to assist with investigations.
