The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has officially set May 30, 2025, as the final deadline for former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to appear for questioning in an ongoing corruption-related investigation.
The development follows months of back-and-forth between the OSP and Ofori-Atta’s legal team, which had previously failed to provide a clear date for his appearance.
Sammy Darko, Director for Strategy, Research, and Communication at the OSP, revealed that the former minister was declared wanted due to his consistent failure to present himself for questioning.

“Our challenge was that Mr. Ofori-Atta is a suspect, and while his lawyers engaged with us, they never gave a definite date for his appearance,” Darko explained in an interview with Citi FM.
This led the OSP to take drastic action, declaring him wanted in an effort to ensure compliance.
Following the wanted declaration, Ofori-Atta’s lawyers proposed a timeline between May 14 and May 30, 2025, for his return. The OSP has now accepted May 30 as the final deadline and removed his name from the wanted list.
However, Darko warned that failure to appear by the deadline would trigger legal measures to compel his return.
Responding to suggestions that the OSP should travel abroad to question Ofori-Atta, Darko stated that such a move was impractical and legally unfeasible.
“This is not just about taking statements. The process could involve an arrest, and the OSP cannot execute an arrest in a foreign country,” he clarified.
With the new deadline in place, attention now shifts to whether the former finance minister will honour the summons or face further legal consequences.
The OSP has assured the public that it remains committed to due process and will take all necessary steps to ensure accountability.
