High Court Orders EC to Complete Collation of Tema Central Results

The High Court has granted a mandamus application compelling the Electoral Commission (EC) to complete the collation of results from two outstanding polling stations in the Tema Central constituency.

This ruling comes after the New Patriotic Party (NPP) filed the application, which also addressed similar concerns in Okaikwei Central, Techiman South, and Ablekuma North constituencies.

The legal dispute began after the EC initially declared Ebi Bright of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as the winner in Tema Central. However, a subsequent recollation process indicated that Charles Forson of the NPP was the actual winner.

The EC explained that the collation process had been delayed due to threats against its staff in Tema Central. Between December 8, 2024, and January 1, 2025, the collation remained incomplete, prompting the NPP to seek legal intervention.

The NDC contested the court’s jurisdiction to hear the case, but their objection was dismissed, clearing the way for the court to proceed with the NPP’s application.

In its ruling, the court directed the EC to finalise the collation process for the two polling stations and ordered the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akufo-Dampare, to provide adequate security during the collation to ensure a smooth and disruption-free process.
