GH¢34.5bn Paid Out In Cocoa Purchases As COCOBOD Injects More Cash

The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has announced the release of an additional GH¢2.6 billion to Licensed Buying Companies (LBCs), pushing the total amount disbursed for cocoa purchases this crop season to GH¢34.52 billion as the Board intensifies efforts to ensure cocoa farmers receive payments for their produce.

The latest cash injection is expected to clear outstanding payments owed to farmers, with approximately GH¢1.4 billion of the amount specifically earmarked to settle the remaining balances for cocoa purchased on credit across all cocoa-growing regions.

In a statement, COCOBOD said the newly released funds would enable licensed buying companies to pay farmers promptly while strengthening confidence in Ghana's cocoa purchasing system.

According to the Board, it has so far paid GH¢34,523,447,255.64 to licensed buying companies since the commencement of the 2025/26 crop season for onwards payment to cocoa farmers.

Of the GH¢2.6 billion released, nearly GH¢1.4 billion has been allocated to clear all outstanding debts owed by licensed buying companies to farmers whose cocoa was purchased on credit.

COCOBOD assured farmers that it is working closely with the buying companies to ensure the funds are disbursed without delay. The board added that it has established monitoring mechanisms to track the payments and guarantee that all eligible farmers receive the money owed them.

The Board acknowledged the patience and resilience demonstrated by cocoa farmers during the payment delays and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that every farmer who legitimately sold cocoa through the approved purchasing system is paid in full.

It also encouraged farmers with outstanding payments to contact the respective licensed buying companies through which they sold their cocoa for updates on their payments.

COCOBOD described the release of the additional funds as a demonstration of the government's commitment to protecting the welfare of cocoa farmers and maintaining the integrity of Ghana's cocoa industry.

The board reiterated its resolve to continue working with government and industry stakeholders to strengthen the cocoa value chain, improve farmer livelihoods, and promote the long-term sustainability of Ghana's cocoa sector.

Expressing appreciation to cocoa farmers, COCOBOD commended their continued dedication and invaluable contribution to Ghana's economy, assuring them that efforts would continue to safeguard their interests and ensure they receive the full benefits of their hard work.
