The Member of Parliament for Akwatia, Ernest Yaw Kumi, has reportedly filed an appeal against his contempt of court conviction by the High Court in Koforidua.
Kumi was convicted on Wednesday, February 19, for defying a court injunction that barred him from being sworn in as an MP.
However, he was absent during the ruling, prompting the court to withhold sentencing and issue a bench warrant for his arrest.

In a swift response, Kumi has also filed an application to stay the execution of the bench warrant pending the outcome of his appeal at the Appeals Court.
Addressing journalists in Parliament, Deputy Minority Whip Jerry Ahmed Shaib criticised the ruling, alleging judicial bias in the case.
The development has heightened political tensions, with members of Kumi’s party insisting that the court’s decision is unfair. Meanwhile, legal experts argue that the MP must respect due process while seeking redress.
As the case unfolds, all eyes will be on the Appeals Court to determine the next course of action regarding Kumi’s conviction and potential sentencing.
