Police investigate clash at Abetifi palace after chief’s destoolment

The police have launched an investigation into a violent clash that occurred at the Abetifi Palace in the Eastern Region on Thursday, leaving six people injured.

The confrontation broke out when a group of armed men, led by Obaapanyin Yaa Asantewaa, the Abrewatia, stormed the palace to destitute the acting President of the Kwahu Traditional Area, Kwahu Adontenhene Akyemfour, Asiedu Agyemang III.

Initially thought to be National Security operatives by local residents, the group escorted Yaa Asantewaa to the palace, where they detained Asiedu Agyemang III. Yaa Asantewaa then forcibly moved the chief to an older palace nearby, where she performed traditional rites, including slaughtering a sheep, as part of the ritual to destool him.

This action angered the local youth, who viewed it as an affront to their chief. Enraged, they armed themselves with machetes and gathered to confront the group.

The situation was eventually brought under control thanks to the timely intervention of security personnel. Yaa Asantewaa was arrested and is set to be processed and arraigned before court, as reported by Adom News’ Akwasi Dwamena.
