TikTok has found a workaround to remain accessible in the U.S. despite ongoing restrictions, allowing Android users to download the app directly from its website.
The move comes as Apple and Google continue to withhold the app from their stores, following a law that took effect on January 19 requiring its Chinese parent company, ByteDance, to either sell TikTok or face a nationwide ban.
The law, originally signed by then-President Joe Biden, was set to take full effect immediately, but President Donald Trump, who assumed office on January 20, has since issued an executive order delaying its enforcement by 75 days.

Donald Trump has also hinted at an alternative solution, stating that a U.S. sovereign wealth fund—set to be created within a year—could potentially purchase TikTok.
With approximately 170 million American users, TikTok remains one of the most widely used social media platforms. However, U.S. officials continue to raise national security concerns, warning that ByteDance’s ownership poses a risk of data misuse.
TikTok has repeatedly denied these claims, asserting that its U.S. user data is stored on Oracle cloud servers and that content moderation decisions affecting American users are made domestically.
The ongoing debate over TikTok has also sparked concerns about free speech, with advocates arguing that banning the platform sets a dangerous precedent. The law restricting TikTok was passed with bipartisan support in Congress, but critics claim it is based on misinformation regarding the company’s ties to China.
Meanwhile, Trump has stated that discussions over TikTok’s potential sale are ongoing and that a decision on its future could be reached before the end of February.
This latest development signals that TikTok is determined to maintain its U.S. presence despite mounting legal and political challenges. Whether the company will ultimately be forced to divest remains uncertain as negotiations and legal battles continue.
