VIDEO: New Transformers Being Installed by NDC Government Were Procured Under NPP — Former ECG Boss

The former Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Samuel Dubik, has claimed that transformers currently being installed under the present administration were procured by the previous government and left at the Tema Port before the transition.

His comments add a new dimension to the ongoing controversy surrounding missing and unaccounted-for ECG containers at the port, which has triggered an official investigation and renewed political debate over procurement and asset management in the power sector.

According to Mr Dubik, the transformers being installed by the current administration under the National Democratic Congress (NDC) were originally purchased during the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) government and were part of consignment items left at the port.

He insisted that this equipment was not newly procured but was already in-country, awaiting clearance and deployment.

The debate follows an investigative report into ECG’s container management at the Tema Port.

A committee chaired by Professor Innocent Senyo Acquah found significant discrepancies between ECG’s declared figures and physical verification at the port.

While ECG reported about 2,491 uncleared containers containing cables and electrical equipment, an independent audit reportedly identified only 1,134 containers physically present, leaving 1,347 unaccounted for.

The findings were presented to the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor.

Minister Jinapor has since described the situation as a serious accountability issue, stating that investigations are ongoing to recover all missing containers.

He disclosed that he had written to the attorney general to examine possible criminal implications, stressing that those found culpable would face the full force of the law.

The minister further indicated that 1,569 containers had so far been accounted for, even as concerns persist over inconsistencies in ECG’s inventory records.

Mr Dubik, in his remarks, urged authorities to thoroughly investigate individuals behind the missing containers, suggesting that the discrepancies may not be accidental.

He described the situation as potentially deliberate sabotage, pointing to systemic failures at the port and within the procurement and clearance processes.
