AUDIOS: Akufo-Addo dismisses uproar over SSNIT hotel sale to Bryan Acheampong

President Akufo-Addo has downplayed the recent controversy over the decision to transfer a portion of SSNIT’s hotel holdings to Rock City Hotels, owned by Agriculture Minister Bryan Acheampong.

The move, which sparked nationwide protests led by North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and organised labour, was criticised as a “distress sale” to a government insider.

The president, speaking at the 12th Quadrennial Delegates Congress of the Trades Union Congress, described the backlash as unnecessary. He highlighted SSNIT’s recent profit of over GHC230 million as proof of the trust’s sound management and argued that the decision to offload non-performing assets was in the agency’s best interest.

Despite SSNIT abandoning the sale after intense public pressure, President Akufo-Addo urged Ghanaians to avoid making hasty judgements that could harm SSNIT’s long-term objectives.

He also encouraged organised labour to engage in more dialogue with the government rather than resorting to industrial action.
