The Ghana Police Service has arrested the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye, for alleged offensive conduct deemed conducive to the breach of public peace.
In a statement issued on Monday, September 8, 2025, the police confirmed that Abronye was taken into custody earlier in the day and is currently being held. He is expected to be arraigned before court in the coming days.
The police statement did not provide details of the specific conduct that triggered the arrest, but it comes amid heightened public attention on the outspoken NPP politician.

Recently, Abronye made headlines after reportedly filing asylum requests in eight countries — including the United States, United Kingdom, France, Italy, Canada, Spain, Germany, and Côte d’Ivoire — citing political persecution and threats to his life.
Police investigations connected to Abronye’s activities also led to a search at the residence of former NPP Youth Organiser Moses Abor on Sunday. Although officers conducted the operation, Mr Abor was not found.
The arrest of Abronye adds a new twist to ongoing tensions within sections of the NPP and could heighten political debate as the country heads into a heated pre-election season.
