Vodacom and MTN have emerged as the two most trusted mobile network operators among South African businesses, far ahead of Telkom, Cell C, and Rain, according to Analytico’s latest Business Technology Survey.
The survey, conducted in August 2025 with 1,057 respondents, focused exclusively on individuals involved in selecting ICT products and services for their companies.
When asked which mobile operator they would choose for their business needs, Vodacom ranked first with 46% of the vote, confirming its dominance in South Africa’s corporate telecoms market.

Vodacom, the first mobile operator to launch in the country, has long concentrated its efforts on building strong local operations, a strategy that has allowed it to establish and maintain a commanding lead over its rivals.
MTN secured second place with 35%, reflecting its strong reputation in South Africa despite its broader focus on expansion across Africa and the Middle East. Since its launch in 1994, MTN has grown into a multinational telecommunications powerhouse, operating in 19 countries.
The difference in strategies between the two operators has shaped their respective strengths: while Vodacom has concentrated on South Africa, MTN has pursued aggressive international growth. This has allowed Vodacom to edge ahead in the domestic market, particularly in terms of business trust.
Meanwhile, Telkom ranked third with 13%, followed by Cell C at 4% and Rain at 2%, underscoring the difficulty smaller players face when competing with the scale, network strength, and marketing reach of Vodacom and MTN.
The findings highlight the challenges for emerging operators in gaining traction in the competitive telecoms market, where businesses prioritise reliability, network coverage, and brand strength.
