AIB Ghana Boss Lays Flowers in Tribute to Victims of Helicopter Crash

The Acting Commissioner of the Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation and Prevention Bureau (AIB Ghana), John M.K. Wumborti, on Thursday, laid flowers in solemn remembrance of those who perished in the recent military helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region.

The brief but poignant ceremony, held at the national memorial site, was a moment of reflection and unity, as Mr. Wumborti honored the memory of the eight victims and expressed the Bureau’s solidarity with the grieving families and the nation at large.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Wumborti said, “The hearts of the entire Bureau are with the families during this time of grief. The AIB stands united with the nation in honoring the memory of the departed.”

The flower-laying gesture was more than a symbolic act; it underscored the Bureau’s compassion and its role in ensuring that such tragedies are thoroughly investigated to prevent future occurrences.

The helicopter crash—which claimed the lives of Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, senior national security officials, and Ghana Armed Forces personnel—has left a deep scar on the nation, prompting days of national mourning and preparations for a state burial on August 15, 2025.

Mr. Wumborti’s tribute served as a reminder of the dangers faced by those in public service and the armed forces and of the collective responsibility to honor their sacrifice while working to improve aviation safety.
