Deputy Finance Minister-designate Thomas Nyarko Ampem has pledged to collaborate with the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) to strengthen revenue mobilisation through technology-driven solutions.
Appearing before the Appointments Committee of Parliament on Monday, Ampem stressed that leveraging technology would be a key priority in the government’s efforts to boost revenue collection and enhance financial efficiency.
Ampem emphasised that while some digital infrastructure has already been implemented, more needs to be done to optimise revenue collection.

He assured that under the leadership of Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, they would take deliberate steps to enhance these systems.
“We will build on whatever has been done previously. Government is a continuum. We will deploy all available digital infrastructures to improve revenue mobilisation,” he said.
He further noted that GRA officials have the expertise to execute this agenda, adding that with the right leadership and incentives, the country can maximise its revenue potential.
“Without technology, we will not be able to achieve the target we’re setting for ourselves,” he emphasized.
Beyond revenue generation, Ampem also assured that the government would prioritise fiscal discipline by keeping expenditures in check.
“We’re going to aggressively pursue revenue generation. And we will cut expenditure—when it comes to expenditure, we need to constrain it,” he stated.
With Ghana’s economy in need of stronger financial management, his remarks suggest that the new administration will take a strategic approach to balancing revenue enhancement with cost control.
As the nominee awaits parliamentary approval, his commitment to digital transformation in public finance management signals a potential shift toward greater transparency and efficiency in Ghana’s revenue collection efforts.
