The victims are currently receiving treatment at the Agona Swedru Municipal Hospital.

The attack occurred on Sunday, February 23, when some aggrieved youth stormed the palace during a family meeting held by the newly installed chief of Gomoa Obuasi, Nana Mbir Asomako IX, and his elders. Gomoa Obuasi, a farming community with a population of over 7,000, has been embroiled in a chieftaincy dispute for the past five years following the demise of its former chief. The Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Council, led by Omanhene Obrempong Nyanful Akrampah, recently stepped in to install Nana Mbir Asomako IX as the new chief.

However, tensions escalated when the former regent, Kwabena Atta, refused to cede power to the newly enstooled chief, sparking disagreements that culminated in the violent attack.

Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants vandalized the palace and two vehicles belonging to Nana Mbir Asomako. The chief and his elders were forced to flee the premises, seeking refuge at the Agona Swedru Divisional Police Command.

Speaking to Adom News, Nana Mbir Asomako recounted how the attackers besieged the palace for over three hours, hurling stones at those inside. He also claimed that the group doused parts of the palace with petrol, allegedly in an attempt to set it ablaze.

In the wake of the attack, Nana Mbir Asomako has called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to deploy additional security personnel to restore order and prevent further unrest in Gomoa Obuasi.

The police have launched investigations into the incident, with sources indicating that efforts are underway to apprehend those responsible for the violence.

The situation remains tense as community leaders and security forces work to bring peace to the troubled town.
