70% of Ghanaians Believe the Country Is on the Right Track Under Mahama- Global InfoAnalytics

A recent Global InfoAnalytics national poll reveals a dramatic turnaround in public opinion, with 70% of Ghanaians now confident that the country is on the right track.

This positive shift follows a prolonged period of public pessimism and marks a striking reversal from months ago, when the majority expressed concerns about Ghana’s future.

The survey indicates that just two years ago, 77% of Ghanaians believed the country was heading in the wrong direction.

The negative sentiment remained high in 2023, with 71% of the public holding the same belief in January and 65% as recently as April 2024, just before the general elections.

However, the situation has dramatically changed since President John Dramani Mahama’s return to office in January 2025.

His first month in power has garnered a highly positive public response, earning him an 84% approval rating in a survey conducted by Global InfoAnalytics during the period.

Mahama’s leadership, combined with his cabinet appointments, has resonated strongly with the public. The president’s cabinet picks have earned a 90% satisfaction rate, with 68% of Ghanaians expressing high levels of contentment.

Mahama’s return to power is historic, as he became the first president in Ghana’s Fourth Republic to reclaim office after being voted out. His victory, securing 56.3% of the vote against Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia’s 41.3%, ended the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) two-term rule under former President Nana Akufo-Addo.

Despite significant economic challenges, including a debt default and currency devaluation that prompted a $3 billion IMF bailout, the survey shows that 78% of Ghanaians now expect their living standards to improve over the next 12 months.

This marks a sharp contrast to early 2024, when the majority reported worsening economic conditions.

The renewed optimism is evident across the country, with particularly strong support from regions that had earlier expressed the highest dissatisfaction, such as the Volta, Greater Accra, and Western regions, where disapproval ratings reached as high as 86%.

The public’s positive outlook appears to stem from Mahama’s efforts to unite the country behind his vision for economic recovery, alongside his governance reforms. Notably, his pledge to establish an anti-corruption office to scrutinise government procurement over $5 million has found widespread support.

As Ghana looks ahead, the surge in public optimism signals a fresh sense of hope, even amidst ongoing economic challenges.
