Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has congratulated the University for Development Studies (UDS) football team for making history as champions of the 2025 FISU University World Cup Football in Dalian, China.
UDS sealed the remarkable achievement with a 2-1 victory over Paulista University of Brazil, becoming the first African team to lift the coveted trophy.
In a message on her social media platforms, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang hailed the team’s resilience and teamwork, describing their triumph as a source of national pride.
“Your determination, teamwork and resilience have lifted Ghana to the pinnacle of global university football. This victory is a triumph for UDS and the entire nation. Know that you have written your names in history and inspired young people across Ghana and beyond. Congratulations,” the Vice President said.
UDS, in response, expressed appreciation to the vice president for her encouragement throughout their campaign, from the quarter-finals to their historic victory.
The win marks a new milestone in Ghana’s sporting journey, positioning UDS and the country at the forefront of global university football.
