Former Arsenal and Ghana international midfielder Thomas Partey has been granted conditional bail after being charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.
The 32-year-old appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, accused of committing the offences between 2021 and 2022, during his time at the north London club. The rape charges relate to two women, while the sexual assault charge concerns a third woman.
Partey, whose Arsenal contract expired at the end of June, was charged just four days after leaving the club. He is scheduled to appear next at the Old Bailey on September 2.

Wearing a black zip-neck jumper, black trousers, and carrying a navy blazer, Partey confirmed his name in court and acknowledged his bail conditions. These include a prohibition on contacting any of the three complainants and an obligation to inform police of any permanent change of address or international travel.
The charges stem from a Metropolitan Police investigation launched in February 2022 after an initial rape report was filed.
Partey’s lawyer, Jenny Wiltshire, has stated that he “denies all the charges” and “welcomes the opportunity to finally clear his name.”
The midfielder is reportedly in advanced talks to join Spanish side Villarreal on a one-year deal, with the option of a 12-month extension.
