Suspicious flights: Inconsistencies in Gov’t Response Fueling Controversy – Oppong Nkrumah

Ofoase Ayirebi MP and former Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has slammed the government over what he describes as glaring inconsistencies in its response to the ongoing controversy surrounding alleged suspicious flights at Kotoka International Airport.

The matter, which has sparked national attention, began when Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, Ranking Member on Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, alleged that some private aircraft landing at the KIA were being used to transport narcotics and illicit cash.

In response to the explosive claims, President John Dramani Mahama directed national security agencies to work with Rev. Fordjour to investigate the allegations thoroughly. But shortly after the President’s directive, the Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, publicly dismissed the allegations, labelling them as baseless and unworthy of investigation.

Appearing on The Point of View on Channel One TV on Wednesday, April 9, Mr. Oppong Nkrumah questioned the credibility of the government’s approach, highlighting what he sees as contradictory signals from top officials.

“Contrary to what the president said, his minister for government communications is the one who came in… rubbishing all of this, saying that an investigation literally was not necessary,” Nkrumah said.

“You can’t say on one hand that you are investigating and then on the other hand say the matter is bogus.”

The former minister expressed concern that Rev. Fordjour may be targeted as a scapegoat, citing an alleged attempt by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) to arrest the Assin South MP earlier this week—a move that was blocked by minority MPs in Parliament.

Nkrumah emphasised that the government’s shifting narrative undermines its own commitment to transparency and raises questions about internal coordination on sensitive national security issues.

“If you’re going to run a transparent and accountable government, you need consistency in how you communicate and act, especially when national security is at stake,” he stressed.
