Special voters must vote December 2 or miss out—EC warns

Deputy Commissioner of the Electoral Commission (EC), Dr. Bossman Asare, has urged all special voters to cast their ballots on December 2, emphasising that failure to do so will disqualify them from voting in the general elections on December 7.

Speaking in an exclusive interview on TV3’s Big Issue Show, monitored by Puretvonline.com, on Monday, November 25, Dr. Asare reminded special voters of the importance of participating in the early voting process, as their names will not appear on the general voter register for December 7.

“Special voting will take place on December 2 at 328 centres,” Dr. Asare stated. He explained that no constituency will have more than 750 voters at a single centre, with larger groups divided into multiple locations to ensure efficiency.

“If you are a special voter, go and vote on December 2; if you don’t vote on that day, your name will not be on the register on December 7,” he reiterated.

The special voting arrangement accommodates individuals who will be engaged in election-related duties on the main polling day, including:

  • Ghana Armed Forces
  • National Intelligence Bureau (NIB)
  • Ghana Police Service
  • National Security
  • Ghana Immigration Service
  • Ghana National Fire Service
  • Information Services Department
  • National Ambulance Service
  • Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority
  • Prison Service
  • Ghana Journalists Association (GJA)
  • National Media Commission

This system allows these personnel to fulfil their professional duties during the general elections without forfeiting their right to vote.

While the special voting process ensures early participation, Dr. Asare clarified that results from this exercise will not be declared until the conclusion of the general elections.

The EC has designated 328 voting centres nationwide to facilitate the process and ensure a smooth voting experience for all special voters.
