Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, Hon. Samuel Awuku, has expressed profound grief over the passing of Ghanaian highlife icon Charles Kwadwo Fosu, affectionately known as Daddy Lumba, describing the late musician as a voice of truth and a timeless legend whose influence transcends generations.
In a heartfelt tribute following reports of Lumba’s death at The Bank Hospital in Accra, the MP reflected on the deep personal connection he shared with the highlife star’s music, particularly the song “Ankwanoma.”
“I never imagined the day would come when the very song that gave me strength would echo with finality,” Awuku wrote. “‘Ankwanoma’ is my favourite song. A song that taught me that life is simply borrowed time, that we do what we can, and when our moment comes, we simply exit without saying goodbye.”
He said that as a lover of Lumba’s music, it was painful to witness the passing of the very voice that offered comfort, wisdom, and hope through lyrics. “I never imagined that soon the voice behind that wisdom would one day become the very proof of it,” he said.
Hon. Awuku praised Daddy Lumba as a rare artist who gave language to emotions many Ghanaians couldn’t express. “He wrapped life’s deepest truths in melody, and now, just as he sang, his time came, and he’s gone. Life, indeed, is fleeting.”
Despite the grief, the MP acknowledged the enduring power of Lumba’s legacy. “Some souls live on through the songs they leave behind, and DL will always be that legend,” he said. “Rest in peace, DL. You impacted through songs.”
Daddy Lumba, who passed away on the morning of July 23, 2025, leaves behind a remarkable catalogue of over 30 albums and a musical legacy that helped define Ghana’s highlife genre for more than three decades.
