The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has announced that the 161 kV Aboadze–Tarkwa transmission line, a critical component of Ghana’s national power grid, has been damaged, raising the possibility of power disruptions in parts of the Western and Ashanti Regions.
In a statement dated October 14, the Ministry said the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) had swiftly deployed its maintenance team to the affected site to undertake urgent repair works.
“The maintenance team has been swiftly deployed and is currently at the location, working diligently to repair the line as quickly as possible,” the statement noted.

According to the Ministry, the damage to the line could affect the power supply to parts of Kumasi and Tarkwa during the repair period.
“The analysis also highlights the possibility of power supply disruption in parts of the Western and Ashanti regions within this short period, precisely Kumasi and Tarkwa,” it added.
The Ministry expressed regret for any inconvenience caused by the development and assured the public that every effort is being made to restore normal service as soon as possible.
In a related development, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and GRIDCo have separately announced planned and emergency maintenance exercises in October across the Greater Accra Region and other parts of the country.
These works, which are part of ongoing efforts to improve power supply reliability and operational efficiency, resulted in temporary outages in some communities, including Botwe Aviation, Adenta, Sasabi Township, Mensah Bar, Bawaleshie, Oyibi, Malejor, Lands Commission, American Embassy, Cantonments, Darkuman, Obodan, and Abetima.
The Ministry reiterated its commitment to working closely with the power utilities to stabilise the grid and minimise disruptions, while urging the public to remain calm and conserve power where possible during the maintenance period.
