The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and Ghana Grid Company have scheduled a series of planned and emergency maintenance works across parts of the Volta and Ashanti regions today, Friday, May 22, 2026, leading to temporary power outages in several communities.
According to the utilities, the exercise aimed at upgrading critical infrastructure and strengthening the national power network will begin at 9:00 a.m., with outage durations varying depending on the scope of work in each location.
In the Volta Region, two separate planned maintenance operations have been outlined. The first, running from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., will affect Kpataxoe, Tsita, Tongor, Atoklokpo, Dzakiti, Tsanakpe, Fantikope, Agordeke, and Dzemeni, along with surrounding communities.
A second exercise in the region, scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., will impact Bowiri, Apenkwa, Bodada, Jasikan, and nearby areas.
Meanwhile, in the Ashanti Region, GRIDCo will undertake emergency maintenance at the Asawinso Bulk Supply Point from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The exercise is expected to affect a wide stretch of communities, including Chirano, Nambro, Subri, Anwiaso, Akyease, Kwamekrom, Bibiani, Tanodumase, Nyinahin, Ntobroso, and others.
The outage is also likely to disrupt operations at major industrial sites, including Mensin Gold Mining Company, highlighting the broader economic impact of the maintenance work.
In separate advisories, ECG and GRIDCo apologised to customers for the inconvenience caused, noting that such disruptions are necessary to ensure long-term reliability and improved service delivery.
The companies assured the public that the maintenance works form part of ongoing efforts to enhance the resilience and efficiency of Ghana’s power infrastructure.
