Following an extensive review of CCTV footage, police apprehended Tuffuor, who was a fellow student and resided in the same hostel as the deceased. Authorities recovered clothing worn during the crime, which has been seized as evidence to aid in the investigation.
Security on campus has been significantly reinforced in response to the incident. Over 50 police officers have been deployed across the university, with five mobile police patrol teams from the Anti-Robbery Squad and 34 patrol officers from the SWAT Unit in the Ashanti Region assigned to enhance safety. Additional security personnel have been stationed at key locations to boost vigilance.

KNUST management, in collaboration with security agencies and the Regional Police Command, is taking further steps to ensure student safety. Currently, 80% of the campus, including the crime scene, is under CCTV surveillance, with plans to achieve full coverage soon.
As a precaution, students have been urged to walk in pairs at night, avoid dark and isolated areas, and report any suspicious activities immediately.
The university extended its deepest condolences to the family of Miss Yabani, expressing sorrow over the loss and assuring students of its commitment to their security.
Police investigations remain ongoing, with authorities calling for calm as they work to bring justice to the deceased and her family.
