On the second day of a planned three-day protest by the Democracy Hub group, several protesters were arrested at the 37 Roundabout in Accra.
Initially centred on Ghana’s economic crisis, the demonstration shifted focus to target illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey.
The police had previously warned the group not to assemble at the same location as Day One, but protesters returned to the area despite the caution.
This led to multiple arrests, with estimates suggesting around 20 individuals were detained. The exact number of arrests and potential charges are yet to be confirmed by the authorities.
The crackdown has ignited debate on social media, where many are demanding more information and raising concerns about the right to protest.
Unlike the first day, when demonstrators blocked roads, traffic at the 37 Roundabout remained unaffected, allowing motorists to move freely.
