Police Arrest Key Suspect in Deadly Omanjor Palace Attack

The Special Support Unit (SSU) of the Ghana Police Service has arrested Newton Allotey, a prime suspect in the recent violent attack on the Palace of the Chief of Omanjor, which left three people dead and 49 others injured.

According to police sources, intelligence gathered indicated that Allotey was hiding in Dansoman. Acting on the tip-off, four SSU teams moved to the area in the early hours of Monday, September 1, 2025, and arrested the suspect at his hideout around 1:00 a.m.

A search conducted during the operation revealed 18 spent BB cartridges in his possession.

The suspect is alleged to have been part of an armed gang that besieged the Omanjor Palace, unleashing violence that claimed lives and left scores of people injured. The brazen attack sparked public outrage, with calls for swift justice and tighter security in traditional communities.

Police confirmed that Allotey is currently in custody and assisting with ongoing investigations. Efforts are also underway to track down other suspects whose identities are already known to the authorities.

The police have assured the public of their commitment to bringing all perpetrators of the Omanjor violence to justice.

Photographs of the suspect and the cartridges retrieved have been made available as part of the ongoing case file.
