Over 490 NPP Youth Organisers Endorse Bawumia for 2026 Presidential Primary

More than 490 youth organisers of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), including substantive and deputy youth leaders from constituencies nationwide, have thrown their weight behind Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia ahead of the party’s January 2026 presidential primary.

The group, representing 490 out of 552 constituency youth leadership teams, picked up Dr Bawumia’s nomination forms on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, after what they described as careful consideration of his “exceptional leadership, proven track record, and vision for Ghana’s future.”

Their collective decision follows a strategic meeting on July 29, 2025, where they concluded that Dr Bawumia is the NPP’s best hope for securing victory in the 2028 general elections.

Amid chants and songs of support, the youth organisers presented the nomination forms to Dr Bawumia at his campaign office.

“We want you to use your rich ideas,” the group told him.

Dr Bawumia expressed deep appreciation for what he called a “remarkable vote of confidence”.

“The youth organisers of our party across the length and breadth of our party — 490 out of 552 — came to me. The leadership requested that they wanted to put their widow’s mite together and pick my nomination forms for me. I agreed because that was a remarkable vote of confidence in me.

This morning, they have fulfilled that promise they made and have picked the form from the party’s head office and delivered it to me. The youth are a major asset of our party and the nation. They represent the future. I want to thank them for this major vote of confidence.”

Dr Bawumia hinted strongly at joining the flagbearer race, stating that he will make a formal declaration when he submits the nomination forms.

He further urged party leaders and aspirants to uphold decorum in the upcoming contest, shun insults, and focus on substantive ideas that will advance the party’s cause.

The NPP’s presidential primary is scheduled for January 2026, with the winner expected to lead the party into the 2028 general elections.
