Over 483,000 BECE Graduates Secure SHS Slots, 107,000 Left for Self-Placement

The Ministry of Education has released the results of the 2025 Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS), offering a clear snapshot of Ghana’s effort to expand access to secondary education.

Out of the 590,309 candidates who qualified for placement, 483,800 students, representing 82%, have been successfully placed into various Senior High Schools (SHS), Senior High Technical Schools (SHTS), and Technical and Vocational Institutions (TVIs) across the country.

Breaking down the figures, 248,038 (51.4%) of the placed students are female, while 234,783 (48.6%) are male, reflecting an almost equal gender balance in admissions. This outcome underscores the Ministry’s drive to ensure gender inclusivity and equity in access to education.

Despite this achievement, a significant 107,509 candidates (18.2%) were unable to secure placement in any of their initial choices. According to the Ministry, the shortfall stems from the high demand for certain Category A schools, where available spaces were far fewer than the number of applicants.

Deputy Education Minister Clement Apaak, announcing the release on September 17, 2025, at 8 pm, urged unplaced students to make use of the self-placement portal to select from the list of schools with available vacancies. He further assured that solution centres are being established nationwide to support students who encounter challenges during the placement process.

“This is a remarkable milestone that reflects our collective progress in expanding access to secondary education,” Dr Apaak remarked, noting that this year’s results show significant strides in bridging the gap between demand and access.

He further cautioned parents and guardians against making illegal payments to secure placement for their children.

“Let me reiterate that placement is free. Anyone soliciting payments in exchange for placement must be reported to the police or the Office of the Special Prosecutor,” he stressed.
