Nurse Queried Over Viral Protest Videos Targeting Health Minister

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has issued a formal query to Bernice Aboagye, a staff member, following the circulation of videos on social media in which she allegedly used “unprintable, inappropriate and scandalous” language against the Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh.

The videos, which have drawn widespread public attention, show Ms Aboagye making remarks that the Service says breach professional conduct and decorum expected of public servants.

In an internal memo addressed to her, the GHS expressed grave concern over the videos, noting that they have been widely discussed online, generating public backlash and disparaging commentary that threatens the image and credibility of the service.

According to the letter, several concerned citizens have lodged complaints, expressing strong reservations about Ms Aboagye’s conduct, which the Service considers a violation of its Code of Conduct and Disciplinary Procedures.

She has been directed to explain why disciplinary action should not be taken against her for:

  • Using unacceptable language, amounting to rude behaviour toward the Minister (Section 8.1(c));
  • Using abusive language against the Minister (Section 8.1(l));
  • Tarnishing the corporate image of the Service, bringing its reputation into disrepute (Section 4.1(d)).

A copy of the videos in question has been attached to the query, and Ms Aboagye has until October 24, 2025, to submit a formal response.

Although the GHS has not issued a public statement on the matter, the internal correspondence signals the seriousness with which the Service is treating the incident, given its potential impact on public trust and the health sector’s integrity.
