The Ranking Member on the Defence and Interior Committee, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, has launched a scathing attack on the government, accusing it of deliberately shielding drug traffickers, blocking investigations, and evading accountability over allegations of suspicious flights and high-profile security breaches.
In a strongly worded statement on Thursday, April 3, 2025, Fordjour dismissed claims by government spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu that he had been invited by security agencies for questioning but failed to comply.
“No security or intelligence agency has ever invited me to assist them with any information. I dare Kwakye Ofosu to provide proof of such an invitation,” he fired back.
Fordjour further alleged that his request for a joint security briefing—which would have allowed security and intelligence agencies to provide updates on investigations—was deliberately blocked by the government and the NDC Parliamentary Caucus.
“What are they so desperate to hide? Who are they protecting?” He questioned.
He also slammed the government’s response to concerns over two suspicious flights—AirMed Flight N823AM and Cavok Air Antonov An-12B—believed to have transported cocaine and cash into Ghana. According to Fordjour, the government’s explanations are “weak, incoherent, and an insult to Ghanaians’ intelligence”.
The Ranking Member further accused authorities of failing to address the fate of 12 containers filled with gold and cash seized by National Security on February 9, as well as investigations into a $500 million cocaine bust.
He warned against Ghana being turned into a hub for money laundering and drug trafficking, vowing to expose all those involved in the cover-up.
“Ghana cannot and will not become a safe haven for criminals while the government looks the other way. This disgraceful attempt to sweep serious crimes under the carpet will not stand!” Fordjour declared.
