Motorists and residents along the Kintampo–Krabonso stretch in the Bono East Region are calling on the government to urgently fix the deteriorating road, warning that its current condition poses a serious risk to lives.
The road, which spans less than seven miles, has become increasingly difficult to use, with drivers now spending hours on a journey that should take only minutes.
According to road users, the stretch was first given a bitumen surface in 2016, but the condition began to deteriorate within three years as sections of the surface were washed away. Since then, the road has worsened significantly, with potholes now dominating large portions of the stretch.
Drivers say the poor state of the road is taking a heavy toll on their vehicles, forcing them to frequently replace spare parts at high costs. Passengers are also feeling the impact, as transport fares continue to rise due to the added burden on operators.
With the rainy season approaching, concerns are mounting over the safety of commuters, as the already damaged road is expected to deteriorate further.
Motorists are therefore appealing to authorities to intervene immediately to prevent potential accidents and loss of lives.
Meanwhile, the Assembly Member for Krabonso, Dassah Daniel, has acknowledged the situation and expressed concern over the hardship faced by residents. He indicated that checks with relevant authorities suggest a contractor is expected to be deployed to the site by the end of the year to begin rehabilitation works.
