Mohammed Kudus Set to Join Tottenham Hotspur From West Ham On a Six-Year Deal

Tottenham Hotspur is set to make a major splash in the summer transfer window with the signing of Mohammed Kudus from West Ham United in a £55 million ($70 million) deal, making the 24-year-old Ghanaian international the most expensive Ghanaian footballer in history.

According to reports, Kudus will sign a six-year contract with Spurs, becoming the club’s first marquee acquisition under new manager Thomas Frank.

The midfielder, who joined West Ham from Ajax just two years ago for £38.4 million ($48.8 million), was a standout performer for the Hammers last season, contributing five goals and four assists in 35 Premier League appearances.

Despite an £85 million ($108 million) release clause, West Ham has reportedly agreed to part with Kudus for £55 million, capitalising on his high market value as Spurs gear up for a return to Champions League football next season.

Sources close to the player say Kudus had prioritised a move to a Champions League side and quickly became sold on the Tottenham project once interest was made known. With Spurs having secured a place in Europe’s top competition after beating Manchester United in the Europa League final in May, Kudus now gets the stage he craved.

The former Right to Dream Academy graduate and Ajax star has now amassed 80 club appearances across all competitions in England and the Netherlands, with a combined tally of 19 goals and 13 assists.

The transfer sees Kudus leapfrog Thomas Partey (£50M) to become Ghana’s most expensive footballer. Here’s how the top Ghanaian transfer fees stack up:

  1. Mohammed Kudus – £55M ($70M)
  2. Thomas Partey – £50M ($63.6M)
  3. Mohammed Kudus (Ajax to West Ham) – £38.4M ($48.8M)
  4. Michael Essien – £24.4M ($31M)
  5. Baba Rahman – £21.7M ($27.6M)
  6. Andre Ayew – £20.5M ($26.1M)
  7. Asamoah Gyan – £13M ($16.5M)

For new Spurs boss Thomas Frank, the acquisition of Kudus represents a statement of intent as he prepares for his first season in charge. Kudus is expected to add versatility, flair, and dynamism to Tottenham’s midfield, offering the ability to operate in both central and attacking roles.

Meanwhile, West Ham, under Graham Potter, are expected to reinvest the funds from Kudus’ sale into bolstering their squad ahead of the new campaign.

Kudus’ move also signals his rapid rise in European football, from Nordsjælland to Ajax, then to the Premier League, and now to one of the continent’s top clubs aiming to re-establish itself among the elite.
