Mahama Vows Prudent Use of Oil Funds for $10bn ‘Big Push’ Infrastructure Drive

President John Dramani Mahama has pledged that oil revenues earmarked for his administration’s ambitious $10 billion “Big Push” infrastructure agenda will be disbursed with transparency, efficiency, and accountability.

The assurance was given during a courtesy call by members of the Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC), led by Chairman Mr Constantine K.M. Kudzedzi. The committee visited the president to congratulate him on his recent electoral victory and to discuss the future of Ghana’s petroleum revenue management.

President Mahama reaffirmed his commitment to investing $2 billion annually over the next five years in critical infrastructure projects. He said the “Big Push” programme will prioritise roads, bridges, educational and healthcare facilities, and productivity-enhancing projects in agriculture.

“Our goal is to use oil and mineral revenues wisely to address pressing infrastructure gaps and unlock inclusive economic growth,” President Mahama said.

He indicated that specific agricultural interventions under the programme will include the construction of irrigation systems, farmer service centres, and support for agribusiness development.

The president further noted that Ghana’s petroleum and minerals royalties would be the primary funding sources for the programme, stressing the importance of responsible and transparent revenue utilisation.

Commending PIAC for its continued oversight role, Mahama praised the committee as a global model for promoting accountability in resource governance.

“PIAC remains a shining example of effective civic engagement in natural resource management. Your work has helped build public trust and ensure that oil funds are used for the benefit of all Ghanaians,” he remarked.
