Joy News’ Erastus Asare Donkor, reporting from the Konongo Government Hospital on Thursday morning, confirmed that five people remain hospitalised, with two in critical condition.

“I can confirm to you now, we are currently at the Konongo Government Hospital, and we have six people who were brought in. Out of that, one died immediately, and now two more have passed away, leaving five on admission. Two of them are in very severe condition but are receiving treatment,” he stated.

The explosion, which triggered a massive inferno, occurred at a store that sold dynamite and other explosives used by local miners. The blast sent shockwaves through the area, damaging over 20 houses and businesses, ripping off roofs, and causing widespread panic.

Eyewitnesses described scenes of horror, with flames engulfing buildings and people running for safety. The inferno erupted just 50 meters away from a fuel station, raising fears of an even bigger disaster.

Authorities have yet to determine the exact cause of the explosion, but emergency responders have launched an investigation. The driver of the first fire tender on the scene reportedly collapsed after his vehicle was caught in the impact.

As families mourn their losses and survivors fight for their lives, residents are calling for stricter regulations on the storage and handling of explosives to prevent such tragedies in the future.
