“His Voice Was the Soundtrack of Our Lives”- Seth Acheampong Mourns Daddy Lumba

The Eastern Regional Minister and Member of Parliament, Hon. Seth Kwame Acheampong, has joined the nation in mourning the passing of highlife icon Charles Kwadwo Fosu, widely known as Daddy Lumba, describing his death as “a heartbreak too heavy for words.”

In a moving tribute, the lawmaker celebrated Lumba’s monumental contribution to Ghanaian music and culture, noting that his voice became a staple in the lives of Ghanaians across generations.

“Ghana has lost a true music icon,” Acheampong stated. “The passing of Charles Kojo Fosu, affectionately known as Daddy Lumba, is a heartbreak too heavy for words. For over four decades, his voice was the soundtrack of our lives—telling our stories, soothing our pain, and lifting our spirits.”

He described the late singer as more than a musician—“a movement” whose influence ran deep through time and across the country.

“He was not just a legend; he was a movement. A musical prophet whose lyrics cut through generations, cultures, and hearts. Daddy Lumba gave us timeless classics, but more than that, he gave us memories—weddings, heartbreaks, celebrations, and quiet moments—all wrapped in melody,” Acheampong wrote.

As Ghanaians come to terms with the shocking news of Daddy Lumba’s passing at The Bank Hospital in Accra on July 23, the MP emphasised that while the musician’s physical journey has ended, his artistic legacy will endure.

“His journey here may have ended, but his legacy will echo forever in our hearts and speakers. Rest well, DL. You may be gone from this world, but your music will live on—eternally.”
