The long-awaited Grand Theft Auto VI will now launch on May 26, 2026, a year later than originally planned — a delay that has rattled investors and pushed Take-Two Interactive’s shares down 9% in pre-market trading on Friday.
Originally set for a 2025 debut, the delay moves the blockbuster title outside of Take-Two’s fiscal 2026 window, likely slashing expectations for revenue in the upcoming year. The game, developed by Rockstar Games, is seen as a future cash cow for the company, with analysts predicting billions in annual sales following its release.
The GTA franchise is Take-Two’s most valuable asset. Grand Theft Auto V alone has sold over 200 million copies since its release in 2013, making it one of the best-selling entertainment products of all time.
