GIS Exposes Fake Recruitment Scheme, Warns Public Against Scammers

The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has issued a firm warning to the public to disregard fraudulent recruitment adverts circulating on social media, stating categorically that no recruitment exercise is currently underway.

In an official statement, the GIS described these viral posts as the work of scammers and impersonators preying on the desperation of job seekers.

“The service is currently not undertaking any recruitment exercise,” the statement said. “All official recruitment announcements are published only in the Daily Graphic and the Ghanaian Times, not on social media.”

The GIS revealed that several fake social media accounts and pages are using stolen images and videos of personnel to trick unsuspecting Ghanaians into believing they are legitimate representatives of the service.

“These acts of impersonation constitute criminal offences under Ghanaian law. We are warning the perpetrators to immediately cease and desist,” the statement stressed.

The service also cautioned the public against anyone demanding payment in exchange for employment, stressing that genuine recruitment into GIS is free, transparent, and publicly advertised.

“All claims of recruitment involving payment are fraudulent. Such scams should be reported immediately to the Ghana Police Service or the nearest GIS office,” the statement urged.

The GIS used the opportunity to call on prospective applicants to remain vigilant, patient, and law-abiding.

“We value the interest of every Ghanaian who wants to serve their country. But we urge you not to fall prey to recruitment scams. The service will make an official announcement when the time comes,” it concluded.

This announcement follows a surge in online recruitment fraud, with scammers exploiting economic hardship to make false promises of jobs in exchange for money.

The Ghana Immigration Service says it remains committed to merit-based recruitment and protecting citizens from exploitation.
