Geoffrey Kini Rallies Fight Against Financial Impropriety After GIABA Anti-Money Laundering Conference

Hon. Geoffrey Kini, Member of Parliament for the Nkwanta South Constituency, has reaffirmed his commitment to transparency and accountability in governance following his participation in a two-day regional conference in Lome, Togo, organised by the Inter-Governmental Action Group against Money Laundering in West Africa (GIABA).

The high-level conference brought together regional policymakers, financial experts, and anti-corruption stakeholders to deliberate on strategies to curb money laundering and enhance accountability in the use of public funds.

Representing Ghana as part of a five-member delegation from the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Hon. Kini said the sessions offered vital insights into international best practices and collaborative approaches for safeguarding public resources.

“Strengthening accountability is not just a governance requirement; it is a moral obligation to the citizens we serve. I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this regional dialogue and to bring home knowledge that will positively impact Nkwanta South and Ghana at large,” he stated.

He explained that the engagement deepened his understanding of systemic loopholes exploited in financial improprieties and provided tools to enhance oversight work within Parliament. Hon. Kini also emphasised that effective collaboration across borders is key to tackling illicit financial flows that undermine national development.

Beyond the conference, Hon. Kini pledged to use the expertise gained to support policies and initiatives that foster transparency, ensure prudent management of public resources, and hold institutions accountable.

Political observers say his active involvement in the GIABA conference underscores his dedication to strengthening Ghana’s fight against financial misconduct and protecting the public purse.

“As we continue to build systems of integrity, I am confident that the lessons drawn from this engagement will strengthen our institutions and safeguard the interests of the people,” Hon. Kini added.
