Gas station owner shot dead in Gomoa Akotsi armed robbery attack

Tragedy struck Gomoa Akotsi in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region as Martin Okyere, a 50-year-old gas station owner popularly known as Italian Burger, was shot and killed by armed robbers during a violent attack.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, November 28, 2024.

Okyere, a respected entrepreneur who had operated the station for over 11 years, was attacked by two armed men who stormed his premises.

Eyewitness Richmond Agyei described the chaotic scene, saying he was drawn to the gas station by the sound of multiple gunshots.

Upon arrival, he found the robbers ransacking the room of the deceased, who lay motionless in a pool of blood. Agyei and Okyere’s daughter narrowly avoided harm when they attempted to intervene.

Okyere succumbed to his injuries before help could arrive.

The victim’s grieving sister, Lucas Esi, broke down in tears as she appealed to the Ghana Police to track down and prosecute the perpetrators. “We need justice for Martin,” she cried, urging law enforcement to act swiftly.

The community has been left in shock and fear following the attack, with residents calling for increased security measures to protect lives and property.

The police are yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
