An American court has convicted well-known Ghanaian socialite Mona Faiz Montrage, also known as Hajia4Real to a year and a day in prison.

Her involvement in a romance scam that conned people out of $2 million resulted in her conviction.

Thanks to her celebrity profile, this sentence has garnered a lot of attention and highlights the harsh repercussions of engaging in fraudulent activities.

On February 21, Mona4Real entered a guilty plea in Manhattan Federal Court to conspiracy to accept stolen money.

She allegedly oversaw bank accounts that garnered more than $2 million in illicit proceeds from the conspiracy, according to federal prosecutors.
